I am curious as to why I would purchase this jumpbox? I can just as easily install the vm as i already have in an ubuntu host. So why would I want to purchase this particular jumpbox? what am I missing in all of this for this particular product?
I wish someone would elaborate on what would be gained with your jumpbox for this product that I am not already receiving with my current configuration?
Thanks
Warren,
using JumpBoxes allows you to focus on using the applications instead of worrying about the plumbing around them. A plain VM gets you started but does nothing to help you on upgrade, forces you to be knowledgeable of the underlying OSand plus it lacks the other conveniences in JumpBoxes. You get easier upgrades using our stuff (we put out new JumpBoxes with updated versions of everything in the software stack and have a simple migration mechanism to move your data to the new instance). All JumpBoxes have a set of web-based administration tools for accomplishing basic tasks like configuring email relaying, setting up stats, enabling SSH/SFTP, setting static IP or hostname. Plus there are built-in conveniences like automated offsite backup options that are baked into the platform itself.
The real value though is thinking one level removed- you don’t just purchase one JumpBox, you get a subscription to a library of JumpBoxes and you can manage all your apps in the same consistent way. There’s currently over 55 pieces of useful pre-configured infrastructure in the library. Working with these apps in this way provides massive time savings especially when you’re using a bunch of them. It’s a more agile way of dealing w/ OSS software.
does that answer your question?
